Apollakia biotope

In the recent years, the construction of Gaduras dam led to the formation of an entensive lake and a biotope almost in the center of the island of Rhodos. Located nearby the village of Apollakia, the dam has a height of 60m and it is the main water reservoir of the island with a capacity of 120.000 m3 of water per day.
A visit to the extensive lake that was formed, is a must for bird watchers.
Nature lovers will also appreciate the rich fauna of the area can watch herds of dama-dama deer (fallow deer) that live in the surrounding woodland. The visit to the dam can be combined with a visit to the nearby traditional village of Apollakia, or with a walk from Apollakia to Skiadi Monastery and the village of Messanagros.
