Ialyssos is one of the
three ancient cities of Rhodes which has not been yet revealed, today is also called
Trianta. It lies 10 kms to the west of Rhodes around and above the mountain Filerimos.
In the historical period the acropolis of Ialysos was called "Achaea" and
according to the legend it was inhabited by the Phoenicians. Ialysos was also the
birthplace of the first victor of the acient Olympic Games, Diagoras. |
